Linux Compatibility Testing Results

This document presents the results of the Linux Compatibility test, which included the installation of Caldera eServer 2.3, SuSE 6.3 and TurboLinux Server 6.0 on the IBM Netfinity 4000R.


KeyLabs' Linux compatibility testing of this system showed the IBM Netfinity 4000R to be compatible with Caldera's eServer2.3, SuSE 6.3 and TurboLinux Server 6.0. The IBM Netfinity 4000R is awarded the KeyLabs Linux Compatibility mark.

Hardware Details

The following table defines the hardware configuration details for the tested system.

Hardware Configuration Information
Motherboard and ProcessorThe system has a Network Engines main board with two Intel Pentium III processors clocked at 750Mhz.
Display Adapters There is an onboard Intel AGP FW824436X display chip which SuperProbe reports as a Chips and Technology F69000. There are two (2) megabytes of video RAM.
I/O Busses The system includes a standard floppy drive interface on the main board but no floppy drive. There are PS/2 style keyboard and mouse ports (one each.) The tested system included two (2) IBM PSG ST 39175 LW hard drives. There is no ISA slot; 2 PCI slots; no AGP slot; two USB ports.
Network InterfaceThis system contains one (1) onboard Intel i82557/i82558 Pro 10/100 and one (1) Intel Ethernet Pro 10/100 NIC card in a PCI slot.
Included PeripheralsThe included CD-ROM drive is an 24X Atapi-type IDE drive. The system was tested with a Dell Quietkey keyboard (101-key standard) and a generic 3-button PS/2 mouse.
Miscellaneous Hardware There are two serial ports present; one standard and one management (EMP). There is no parallel port. There is one external SCSI LVD port present.

Caldera eServer 2.3 Notes:

    1. This machine has no parallel port, thus the parallel port tests were not conducted.

    2. This distribution had no problems with setting up and using an X server.

SuSE 6.3 Notes:

    1. This machine has no parallel port, thus the parallel port tests were not conducted.

    2. User must install from CD 2 to get the test-based YAST install due to an incompatibility with the grahics chip.

    3. X cannot be configured with the XF86 servers included with the distribution. Upgrade the X servers to get X server functionality.

TurboLinux Server 6.0 Notes:

    1. This machine has no parallel port, thus the parallel port tests were not conducted.

    2. X cannot be configured with the XF86 servers included with the distribution. Upgrade the X servers to get X server functionality.
